Amy Marcy Cheney Beach (September 5, 1867 – December 27, 1944) was an American composer and pianist. She was the first successful female American classical composer. She is best-known for writing sacred choral music and songs. Much of her work was influenced by African-American, Native American, Scottish, Irish, and Balkan themes.
