Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (September 30, 1852 – March 29, 1924) was an Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor. He is most commonly remembered for writing sacred choral works, but he also wrote concert works. Stanford's pupils included Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Although Stanford was popular during the late 19th century, his music (except for his church music) was largely forgotten after his death.
