Friedrich Daniel Rudolf Kuhlau (September 11, 1786 – March 12, 1832) was a German-born Danish composer. He was born near Lüneberg in the present-day German state of Lower Saxony, moved to Copenhagen in 1810, and became a Danish citizen in 1813. He was a prolific composer, and was responsible for popularizing many of Beethoven's works in Denmark. Today, Kuhlau is regarded as an important figure in Danish cultural history.
