Józef Antoni Franciszek Elsner (June 1, 1769 – April 18, 1854) was a composer, music teacher, and music theoretician. Elsner composed a wide variety of works, including symphonies, chamber music, operas, and solo works. Elsner was one of the first Polish composers to incorporate folk music into his work. As a teacher, Elsner is remembered for teaching Chopin how to play the piano.
